November to February: outdoor heritage
Cooler months are a practical starting point for Hampi, Badami, Pattadakal and other open-air heritage sites. Even in this period, carry water and arrange a midday break. These destinations involve uneven stone, exposed paths and time on foot; a short driving distance does not mean a short visit. Coastal places such as Udupi, Gokarna and Murudeshwara can also suit a winter itinerary, subject to current sea conditions.
Mysuru Dasara: plan the event first
Dasara usually falls in September or October, with exact dates changing each year. If attending the celebrations is the purpose of your trip, use the current official programme to choose accommodation and travel dates. Event access, road closures and coach parking differ from a routine city visit. Give the group a clear meeting point and allow additional walking from drop-off areas. Do not assume every advertised event is freely accessible or included in a hotel booking.
Coffee-country breaks and summer holidays
Coorg and Chikkamagaluru are popular for estate stays, hills and a change from city temperatures. The location of the stay determines the daily driving. Confirm the final approach road, meal arrangements and parking before selecting a coach. During school holidays and long weekends, prefer a realistic two- or three-night plan over a crowded one-night circuit. Private estates require permission for visits even when their roads or fields look inviting.
Monsoon: greenery with flexible access
June–September often brings heavy rain to the Western Ghats and coast. This can suit a quiet stay, but waterfalls, trekking routes, hill roads and sea activities may be restricted. Choose a trip that remains worthwhile if outdoor plans change. Follow district and site instructions, and avoid interpreting an older travel video as evidence that a trail is currently open. A booked room or vehicle does not guarantee access to a natural attraction.
Ugadi, year-end and wedding dates
Ugadi usually falls in March or April. Along with school breaks, Christmas, New Year and popular wedding dates, it can affect vehicle and accommodation demand. Use the actual calendar for your year. Compare the full price rather than a per-kilometre headline: minimum daily kilometres, driver allowance, parking, tolls, interstate charges and extra hours can change the total. Request a separate, confirmed quote for wedding cars and any decoration or extended waiting.
